A question from Becks_the_Bomb: How does the thyroid gland effect diabetes?
I know that if the thyroid gland isn’t functioning properly, people with diabetes find it difficult to manage their diabetes. Why is that?

Answer by G-Stone
People with diabetes who develop hypothyroidism may find it hard to manage their diabetes. This is because the way their body uses glucose is altered.
Fatigue may set in and you won’t feel like undertaking any physical activity. This may lead to weight gain from the decreased physical activity and a slower metabolism.
However, once a person with hypothyroidism receives thyroid replacement medication, their thyroid levels usually return to normal, as does their diabetes medication requirements.

As far as I know, diabetes doesn’t run in my family. My dad has high cholesterol, 2 of my aunts and my mom have high blood pressure, another aunt has a thyroid problem, and my dad’s cousin died from pancreatic cancer. Are my chances high? I’ve heard a lot of these link to diabetes, but I’m not sure which one I’m at risk to get if at all.
I forgot to mention I am 19 years old if that helps.

I bruise easily and was told it could be a sign of diabetes. I am only 27. Also what do doctors do to test for diabetes?
Also I get light headed sometimes, hotflashes, can go from happy to sad at times,I do urinate frequently but always have, sometimes I feel weak like I dont have energy like usual I dont know if any of these symptoms have anything to do w/ this but if I dont control my moods my husband is going to leave me. I dont know whats going on. I will get a bruise and it will take months for it to disappear. I was adopted so I dont know much about my medical history but I do know diabetes, strokes, cancer, thyroid disease runs on my bio. fathers side. I get chest pains on the left side of my chest but its hard to tell what it is from indigestion its not real intense but it is bothersome @ times.

bamacat asked:
My mom is 69, not able to exercise due to left side weakness and nerve damage in legs and falls often. She takes coumidin, plavix, cholesterol and thyroid meds(plus more). AND now diabetic(told to loose weight). Being stroke survivor, she can better understand how to follow a menu laid out more than just “eat this, dont eat that”. Its hard now with rules for coumidin alone. HELP!

Can anyone share their stories? (like how you felt when you got diagnosed and how you still cope) Please no rude remarks. I want to hear from other people.

PMD asked: He is only 6/12 and was diagnosed w/ diabetes insipidus last Ocotober and has been on Desmopressin the synthetic hormone in an eye drop form since Oct. He went from an active dog to a lifeless stuffed animal, he doesn’t want to do anything he used to do. He is also on thyroid meds. He was just at the vet last month and all of his levels are normal. Does anyone know the side effects of desmopressin b.c. I think that is causing all of his terrible side effects. I just want my old dog back

We have spent over $5,000 on Koby and this disorder. We get him tested every three months. We do not have any children yet so he is like our son and we will do anything it takes to get him back to his normal self.
