As far as I know, diabetes doesn’t run in my family. My dad has high cholesterol, 2 of my aunts and my mom have high blood pressure, another aunt has a thyroid problem, and my dad’s cousin died from pancreatic cancer. Are my chances high? I’ve heard a lot of these link to diabetes, but I’m not sure which one I’m at risk to get if at all.
I forgot to mention I am 19 years old if that helps.

I read on the doctors wall where they have posters informing you of different diseases and they had one where diabetes can hurt your skin and said "Protect Your Skin" And I am just curious to know. How does diabetes hurt your skin? What would your skin look like when it is affected by diabetes?
My concern is because my mom know has Diabetes type 2 and I am concern for myself and not sure if I have the signs. No health insurance.

I’m scared and new to the whole diabetes scene. I’ve searched online for meals and proper care…I’m still worried that I haven’t covered all corners. Its all new to our family, my mom is the first person to develop diabetes. Can anyone offer tips or good reading? She’s getting out of the hospital in another week so I’m trying to prepare myself as well as my brothers and sisters. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello…
So I’m a little concerned. I have and 11 year old sister who was just diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes. My mom is seriously starting to make her and everyone stressed about the whole deal because she treats her differently than all the other kids. “No honey, you can’t eat that.” “You better not, you don’t want to take insulin!!!”
She thinks she knows everything about diabetes, but in reality, she doesn’t! My sister (Leah) CAN eat what she wants, but just has to compensate with insulin! If she wants ice cream and pizza, she can have it! My mom just doesn’t seem to understand. How can I convince her that Leah is a normal kid and that she can do ands eat what she wants?
    Thanks.
Sorry that was a little long, but it is getting to the point where it needed to be long.
