A question from ms.meadows88: Is it possible for women with type 1 diabetes to have healthy babies?
I’m 20 years old with type 1 diabetes and I wanted to know if there are women out there who have had healthy pregnancies and babies with typee 1 diabetes. I’m currently 2 months pregnant and Im kind of nevous about the pregnancy being difficult any uplifting advice or experiences?
Top answer:
Answer by Skatin’ Yes, if you had asked this in the Diabetes forum you would have had many women answer! It is definitely possible. It takes a lot of monitoring but you already knew that. I’m a type 2 and on my second pregnancy. I know you are considered high risk and will have more ultrasounds, tests, etc. But the main things to worry about are avoiding high sugars in the first trimester – and even then, the danger is to have high, SUSTAINED blood sugars. In other words, the women who are at most in danger are women who don’t know they are diabetic, and women who for whatever reason aren’t treating their diabetes whatsoever. If you have been monitoring your sugars you should be just fine.
The internet can scare you to death so just keep that in mind. The birth defects are mostly linked to uncontrolled blood sugars. If your sugars are in control your statistical chance falls to the same percentage as a non-diabetic woman.
