A question asked by Heather: I don’t have gestational diabetes, but could I still have Type 2 diabetes?
I failed my first gestational diabetes test, but passed my second one. Is it possible to have type 2 diabetes or be a prediabetic or would they have tested for that also. OR would that test indicate type 2 or prediabetes?
The best answer:
Answer by butterflygal291 I would say you’re not diabetic. It should have showed up. They would have checked your blood sugar which is the first test if someone is suspected to be diabetic, no matter which type.

Question posed by LaReina: I am doing a survey on gestational diabetes and type 1 diabetes?
I would like to know if you suffer from diabetes type 1 was it caused by gestational diabetes or genetic? Do you have a controlled diet, take insulin and exercise? I am doing a research on gestational diabetes and would like to know if affects the child as they grow. Please, Please, i need your responses and honesty. I need about 50 responses. Thank you all…
Question posed by Kimberly: Has anyone else had gestational diabetes and controlled it through diet?
I had it 6 years ago and was able to cut out bread, sugar/sweets, potatoes.
I have it again and need help with finding what I can eat. Any good websites or books that you know about? Experiences to share?
The best answer:
Answer by Rosie_0801 You shouldn’t be cutting out all carbs! A pregnant woman needs 4-6 serves per day. I found the only way I could keep it under control and still have adequate carbs was to have two slices of a multigrain Burgen brand bread with each meal. Everyone’s body is different though, so you may be able to eat other carbs, or you may have it worse this time and have to go on insulin. You ought to be referred to a diabetes educator and dietician for support. Ask your doctor/midwife about that.

Question by Ashby: What week are you tested for gestational diabetes?
I’ll be 23 weeks on Monday and I have an appointment with my OB then. I thought she said I’d have to do the glucose test at that time, but she may have meant later. I wondered when you’re typically tested for gestational diabetes in pregnancy?
Also, I’ve noticed I am so thirsty lately. I know this can be a sign of diabetes. But I wondered if dry mouth/thirst is also just a symptom that some pregnant women deal with (who DON’T have diabetes)?
Question by ?Lucky?: What is a good diet to PREVENT gestational diabetes?
It runs in my family. I have insulin resistence and want to prevent gestational diabetes. I’m still early in the pregnancy so I want to take charge of this now.
