diabetes symptoms

Question by Mercury Walsh: If I have diabetes symptoms should I see my doctor?
I told my mom I have all the symptoms of diabetes (I’m 15 years old) the symptoms are kind of increasing. She keeps saying I don’t and making up excuses. I haven’t had a blood test in years and I heard you need to get a blood test to find out

Your school probably requires an annual physical. Mention it to the doctor next time you go.

Or go to your school nurse, and ask him or her if you really have signs of diabetes. A lot of people misdiagnose themselves, and think that they have diabetes when really they don’t. What symptoms do you have?

There are a few symptoms that are pretty obvious, that you really can’t fake, and that your mom might be aware of. If you are always thirsty and always having to urinate, and sudden unexplained weight loss or gain. There are other symptoms, but those are the big ones, which just about every diabetic has. These symptoms are also obvious to other people, so if your mom knows anything about diabetes, then she can tell whether you have those symptoms or not.

You do need a blood test to find out if you have diabetes, but it has to be a specific kind.

How Do You Know if You Have Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease which prevents insulin from being used properly in the body of an otherwise healthy adult or child. Insulin is a critical chemical in the body which helps turn sugar and starches into energy the human body can use. When a person has diabetes his or her body has a difficult time producing enough insulin. The symptoms of diabetes can be nearly unnoticeable at first.

Nearly 18 million people have diabetes in the United States, though many doctors and health professionals feel that that number is actually inaccurate due to the large number of people who have diabetes but have never been diagnosed. Knowing the symptoms of diabetes can help you decide if you need to see a doctor or not for a full diagnosis and treatment. Here are some of the more common symptoms of diabetes:

Excessive Hunger and Thirst: Because diabetes affects how your body digests and handles food, you may actually feel more hungry after a big meal than before you began eating. Thirst may also be increased due to sugar building up in you body. Since your body won’t be able to handle the sugar your kidneys will have to work overtime. The increased sugar will leave your body as urination, which may leave you dehydrated and wanting more to drink.

Excessive urination: This is sometimes more difficult to notice because different people do urinate at different rates. The increased thirst of diabetes often leads to increased liquid intake which obviously means more urination. Adults who wet the bed at night unexpectedly could actually be suffering from a form of diabetes and not even realize it.

Increased Fatigue: There are a number of reasons you may feel unusually fatigued, but the extra work your body is spending just to process sugar may be one of them. Since diabetes limits your ability to turn sugar and starches into energy it means your body is not able to use food to its fullest advantage.

Diabetes is a serious disease that can grow worse if not diagnosed early and treated properly. There are many subtle symptoms of diabetes, and this list is just a small sampling of what you may feel or experience if you have the disease. The good news is that diabetes is a disease which doesn’t have to kill you. You can live and even thrive with diabetes as long as you take care of yourself with some common sense treatments and actions.

Many of the symptoms above could be indications of a dangerous and undiagnosed. For example, there are many causes for wetting the bed as an adult. If you have any of the above symptoms you may want to talk to a medical professional.. Check here for free reprint license: How Do You Know If You Have Diabetes.

type 1 diabetes

Question by Lucy: How does a doctor differentiate between type 1 diabetes and type 2…?
Also, are fasting blood sugar levels an accurate diagnostic test because i heard people with diabetes type 1 can have normal blood sugar levels from fasting but not after eating… is that true?
I know type 1 makes no insulin and type 2 makes little insulin but how does a doctor know? Are blood sugar levels higher in type 1 then in type 2? Is there a blood test to determine it?

diabetes

Question by John D: How can you check if you have diabetes without seeing a doctor?
I’m 19, I’m worried I may have diabetes and I don’t have health coverage/insurance so I can’t go see a doctor. Is there a cheap way to check if you have it without having to go see a doctor?
Thanks for the tips guys but I don’t know anyone close to me who has diabetes, none of my friends got it. I don’t think anyone in my family has it so I can’t go to them for help. I’m not overweight either.
