Whats the Universal Symbol for Type 1 Diabetes?

   The symbol for diabetes is the blue circle. Not much of a tattoo, but it will get the job done

   Don’t let that be a substitute for wearing medic alert tags or a bracelet, though. If you want it seen quickly, you should try placing it in a spot an EMT is likely to see, such as the back of your hand, and most do not know the universal symbol. Try adding Type 1 diabetes underneath it, or make it creative! My best friend got the circle on her wrist, about the size of a quarter, and turned it into a yin yang. She put diabetes underneath it, but still wears her tags just in case

   i was going to get a medical alert tattoo for diabetes on my wrist but came to the conclusion that if anything ever happened to me, the paramedics are not going to look at my tattoo(s). they immediately will check for an alert bracelet and checking blood glucose is one of the standard things they do in a situation.

   either way i love tattoos and got one anyways, but on the back of my arm.

   i got a snake wrapped around a staff with wings. kind of like the rod of Asclepius with a bit of artistic embellishment (the EMT use the rod of Asclepius on their symbols)http://www.headcovers.com/prodimages/diabetes-ribbon.jpg.

   i think the EMT symbol on your inner wrist would be the most likely to catch their eye out of everything.

   so anyways that’s my advice and story about diabetic tattoos!!

   o yeah…things a came across in my symbol searching:

   blue circle – unite for diabetes campaign
   grey ribbon with blood drop in bottom right corner – the diabetes ribbon
   (like the pink one is for breast cancer, etc…)
   i even found a globe with a bird (hummingbird?)…can’t find a link for it
