If you don’t eat a lot of hotdogs and your parents don’t have it then you would not be considered at risk, however the fact that its in your family tree makes for some risk. Its not something you should stress over though
Genetics are a huge factor. It also depends on how active you are and your diet. Remember it’s not all about sugar; it’s also the carbs. Ask one of your grandparents to check your sugar level.
A lot does depend on genetics for Type 2 (as another poster mentioned). When I got Type 2 and told the nurse that my mother’s side of the family were diabetic for 3-4 generations and my father was getting low blood sugar readings, she said “You didn’t stand a chance, did you”?
On the other hand, keep yourself slim (I am certainly not!) and as healthy as possible. Don’t give diabetes any extra ‘chances’!
Good luck to you and get your blood sugar tested once a year (just for peace of mind).
While genetics play in role in type 1, it is not hereditary.
Your lifestyle and diet play no role in developing type 1 (so don’t believe answers to the contrary).
Type 2 is a totally different thing.
