i also want to know if they are treated the same, that is with the same type of medication?

Diabetes type 1 is when the pancreas cannot produce insulin at all. So, if someone has it they probably have it since they were born. Medications for it is to inject yourself with insulin.
Diabetes type 2 is when the pancreas produces little insulin. People often get it as they grow older. They often don’t take insulin but they have to moniter their intake of sugar (remember, their sugar can’t be higher than the insulin produced otherwise they will get sick).
Hopes this helps
type 1: pancreas is dead
type 2: pancreas is trying to work, but is overwhelmed , or doesn’t do it’s job well enough
DIABETES (both types) is when the body does not have enough insulin to meet it’s needs. Insulin is a HORMONE, and is used to allow sugar to pass from the blood into the cells. The sugary is used in the cells as “fuel” for acting, growing, and healing.
If you do not have enough insulin, then the sugar cannot pass from the blood into the cells. The sugar level in your blood goes very high, and this does ALL kinds of damage to your body — heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, blindness, amputations, Alzheimer’;s Disease, and sexual dysfunction.
Type 1 Diabetes is caused by a FAILED pancreas. the pancreas is the internal organ that make insulin, and when it fails make no insulin. SInce the sugar can not pass from your blood into your cells, the cells starve to death, and you WILL die.
Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight. In this case there are two effects. The first is that you have to much body for your insulin. The pancreas is working correctly, but the big fat body needs more insulin than the body can produce. this is called Insulin Deficient Type 2 Diabetes.
ALSO, being overweight causes the body to become resistant to the insulin that is produced. So the insulin that is there is not used efficiently. This is called Insulin Resistant Type 2 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes USUALLY occurs before th patient reaches the age of 21. because of this Type 1 diabetes USED TO BE called “Juvenile Diabetes”, but Type 1 Diabetes can strike ANYONE at any age, so “juvenile” is not longer used, and Type 1 is the preferred name.
Type 2 Diabetes used to be seen in people over 40, so it USED TO BE called “Adult Onset Diabetes”. But the cause is WEIGHT, not age. Obese children as young as NINE years old have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, so the term “Adult Onset” is no longer used.
There is ONLY ONE medicine for Type 1 Diabetes — Insulin. Type 1 Diabetics MUST take daily shots, or they will die. Insulin is destroyed by stomach acid, so there are NO “Insulin Pills”. Insulin is available ONLY by injections.
There are many medications for Type 2 Diabetes. One class of medicines causes the pancreas to produce more insulin, and the other class causes the body to better use the insulin.
ALSO, since Type 2 Diabetes is caused by being overweight, weight control is VERY important for a Type 2 Diabetic. They MUST lose weight and keep the weight off.
STRICT dietary control is also a must for BOTH kinds. The patient can have NO sugars in their food! they must also serious limit the intact of carbohydrates like breads, crackers, pastas, corn, rice, and potatoes. Exercise causes the body to use up sugar, so increased exercise is also important to BOTH kinds.
Both Type 1 and Type 2 have a genetic component. if you parents or grand parents have diabetes, your are more likely to have it, too. But there is NO guarantee that you WILL get it, and no guarantee that you won;t. This is why some extremely obese people will never get diabetes, and some people who are only 5-10 pounds overweight will get it.
There is NO CURE for either type of diabetes. It can be CONTROLLED, but never CURED. Once a patient is diabetic, they will have it for the rest of their life, and must be careful each day to eat properly and exercise enough. Type Diabetics MUST take the insulin shots EVERY day, for the rest of their lives.
Type 2 Diabetes can often control the disease by losing weight. IF they lose enough weight, it is possible that the medication can be reduced or even eliminated. Still the disease is not GONE, only controlled.
If EITHER type of Diabetic fails to take the necessary daily care, they will become sick again.
Type one (insulin dependence) is when your pancreas (it’s on your left side, a little above your stomach) stops making insulin. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar. Without any insulin being made, it’s nessacary for people with type one to take insulin shots, or use an insulin pump. They cannot live with diet and exercise alone. Anyone can get type one, it is an autoimmune disease which means (amongst other things) that it isn’t preventable.
Type two (insulin resistance) is when your pancreas makes enough or sometimes even too much insulin. Your body just doesn’t absorb it very well. Type one very commonly occurs in the overweight and obese. It is usually conceived as an adult. Sometimes, diet and exercise alone can treat it. Others need oral medication (such as metformin) which makes your body absorb insulin more easily. And yet others need insulin shots as well.
