Type 2 diabetes runs in my family, both my grandma and my dad have it. My diet isn’t the best in the first place, but I want to do my best to try and avoid getting diabetes in the future.

Diabetes is a complicated disease and you are smart to want to educate yourself about first.
There are lots of ways to help slow down and sometimes reverse type 2 diabetes.
Exercise, understanding how foods affect you, medication and natural supplements are all a great place to start.
The key is to understand what causes the body to react and make high blood sugar levels so you can do some life style changes to keep it from happening to you.
Here is a website that has a lot of information on it to help you understand the causes and symptoms so you can prevent it from affecting you.
Good luck to you.
umm well when u have diabetes,u cant take it back but u can reduce it!!i suggest eating more vegetables and fruits and cutting back on sweets.u should cut back on sweets and the "junkfood".wheat bread and salads with no dressing(maybe italian but definately not ranch)!

Diet alone will help, but combining diet and exercise will greatly reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Walking 30 minutes a day is so beneficial.
As for diet, eating less refined sugar will help. Try to follow the food pyramid. Eat in moderation and use common sense. Sugary cereals and sweets obviously should not be eaten on a regular basis.
My mother is also at risk for type 2 diabetes, and she follows a "perimeter" diet. When in the supermarket, she only shops around the perimeter of the store. Vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, dairy, and grains. She does not go down the aisles anymore. It has helped her to also lose weight and her A1C is still within normal range.
Good luck! Feel free to ask any questions.
Tiredness can be a symptom of diabetes but is very non specific.
Your age and being overweight does increase your risk
Often a person in your age group will present with infections -commonly thrush/monilia as a vaginitis.. you can also present with a heart attack or stroke as a complication of diabetes. 1% of the population are diabetics another 1% are undiagnosed
The easiest way to set your mind at rest is to see your doctor for a blood/urine test.
If you get type 2 diabetes it is your fault. You are overweight, and a disgrace to people who have type 1 diabetes. And if you get it, don’t complain because it is your fault and no-one elses. Type 2 diabetics should feel terrible, and not allowed to use insulin. Good Day Sir.
Matthew D I suggest you go back to school and get your facts straight rather than show your ignorance when it comes to diabetes type 2.
I am diabetic type 2 and have been for the past 9 years. My weight is the same as it was 20 years ago 123lbs, For the past 10 years I have a membership in a local skating rink and I skate 8 hours a week I also go for 1 hour walks a day sometimes more.
Since finding out I was diabetic the only change I made in my life was I went out and bought a diabetic meter and went on a diet. Thanks to that meter I found out what foods raised my sugar and what foods are safe to eat.
My sugar level went from very high to nomal and because my weight was normal to begin with it stayed the same I still weigh 123 lbs. I have not gained nor have I lost weght. I should add I weigh myself on different scales including my doctors scale
