Having gestational diabetes will hurt your child more than this drink will!!
Besides, I think all pregnant women get tested around this time. I did.
It’s recommended, actually. The sugar won’t do anything to the baby, except make him move a lot. It’ll be fine. If she didn’t get the test and she did have Gestational Diabetes, then that could turn into a huge problem.

She should get this done. For her protection/health. As well as her babys.
No. They do a glucose test during pregnancy for a reason. GD can be very very harmful to the baby. If anything the baby will move around like crazy.
Of course it is fine. Don’t worry about the baby – these tests are done all the time, because gestational diabetes could be a very serious matter for mom and baby. If they find out, though, controls can be implemented so both will be fine.
No its a standard test they give to all pregnant mommies. Its testing to see if she has gestational diabeties, left untreated it can cause complications for mom and baby. Don’t worry about she and your baby will be ok.
I don’t think the doctor would suggest anything that would harm her or the baby.
this is almost routine practice now. i did it with both of my kids and it will not harm the baby or your wife at all. the syrup is like drinking uncarbonated soda flavoring…it’s gross, but it’s okay.
No. This is a test that all pregnant women get. Its like drinking a syrupy coke or orange soda.
I think they’re making her fast too long.
I only had to fast for three hours, then I drank the gross sugar drink. I waited an hour after finishing the sugar drink and then they checked my blood sugar. I felt like crap for fasting that long.
This is a routine test and is perfectly safe. Almost every pregnant woman has this done. It is in the baby’s best interest to do the test.
What would be dangerous is for a woman to have untreated diabetes during pregnancy.
yes of course its safe this is done routinely for many pregnant women. i understand why you may be comcerned – pregnancy is not the best time to go for 12hours without eating then have so much sugar but it is only done once throughout the whole pregnancy so does no harm. it will hurt your baby more if your wife is diabetic and it goes untreated
They wouldnt tell her to take it if it would hurt the baby. the baby will be fine.

every pregnant women is usually required to take this test, you dont have to fast though,i wouldn’t.it wont hurt the baby most babies like it and will be overly excited kicking and punching for hours,tell your wife to be prepared.o and the drink tastes just like orange soda.lol.i wanted more.i craved it for like a week
no the sugar doesnt affect the baby what soo ever… its better to do this test and see if your possitive then to wait and it hurt the baby in the long run.
you dont have to fast overnight you just cant eat once you drink the juice… and remember you have 5 minutes to finish the drink after its opened!! for best results drink the juice on the way to the doctor and write down what time you finished it. ( i lived 20 minutes from mine and drank it before i left then we took the test an hour later.)
It is a routine test…they do it so if she has diabetes they can treat her with insulin if needed or just diet…would you rather her go into shock from not knowing that she has it & ends up going to the hospital because of low bloodsugar or even high bloodsugar? Its fine, i had to take the test 3 times because i was one point over on one of the results & now my baby is perfectly happy & normal. Besides the liquid is designed to go through her body quickly so they know how her body reacts to such sweetness. The only thing wrong with that test is the taste of the syrup.
It’s a normal test that all pregnant women take! I took it and I’m glad I did because I found out that I do have gestational diabetes. Because of the test, I keep my sugars under control and see a diabetes specialist. Had I not taken the tests and found out then I could have really done harm to my baby!!
It’s really not a big deal. The drink tastes like sweet Gatorade (it’s actually kind of good). Now if she ends up taking the 3 hour test (where they take blood 4 times) that drink is a lot more sugary and syrupy, but still not bad!
I hope she doesn’t end up with gestational diabetes, but if she does, be happy that it got caught and can be dealt with!!

she’s going straight to the 3 hour test? usually the first glucose test administered is a 1 hour test, and there is no fasting required because they take your blood before the test starts, give you the drink, then you wait 1 hour, and then they take your blood after….it’s perfectly safe and is the way to diagnose gestational diabetes. if the 1 hour test comes back positive, then it’s followed up by the 3 hour test….
No…its doesn’t hurt the baby…diabetes testig is very common in pregnant women
