How Soon Can Gestational Diabetes Be Detected in Pregnancy?

Is there a reason they tested you early? Normally they don’t test for gestational diabetes until after 24 weeks, which makes me think that’s when it’s most commonly found. I would think that , at 6 weeks pregnant, you had issues with this before. It’s an excellent question for the doctor.

I would say that you already had it, my daughter is 25w3d and they are testing her for that next month. They said that gestational diabetes starts around 28 weeks.
Diabetes and pregnancy together are rough so please be careful.

Gosh, that doesn’t sound normal to me. I’m not a health care provider, so I’m speaking from life. I thought the first test was to be the normal one and then when you take another long about 7 or 8 months, when they take another they’d be able to detect a change. Listen to whatever your doc says. Eat a well balanced diet and don’t overdo breads, baked goods and other starchy/carb ladened foods because they turn to sugar. Obviously, you need carbs, but just don’t overdo and try never to go hungry so your blood sugar goes up and down. That’s why it’s important to have a good, protein based breakfast, like an egg, peanut butter on whole wheat toast or a bagel, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese. Ask your doc if you can get a food list to follow. Eat fruits like bananas–something easy so you can take them with you and eat them as a snack as opposed to resorting to something not so healthy.
