I am wondering if my husband may have had it for past 2 yrs. He urinates frequently, eats excessively (lots of carbs/etc), hands/ feet itch, low-no sex drive. Has lost weight and is watching what i eat – but i wonder if this may have been an issue all along. His dad, uncle, and grandfathers all had it.

The symptoms can be present for many years before a something dramatic happens and the diagnosis is made. So, it is possible that your hubby has type 2. He may already be suffering from secondary complications too. He needs to have his blood test by your doc to determine if he has diabetes or is at risk of developing it.
Some studies have been shown that many Type 2 diabetes patients have had the disease for 5-7 YEARS before being diagnosed.
this is because that A) the symptoms come on soooo slowly, and B) the symptoms can also be caused by other diseases, and many people try to treat those diseases first.
Diabetes canNOT be diagnosed by symptoms alone. Blood test are REQUIRED — and that is another reason why many people don’t get diagnosed soon enough. Too chicken to have a simple blood test that could save their life.
You husbands symptoms are errily suspicious, and he NEEDS to have those blood tests done.
If symptoms are showing up, he may have already had it for a number of years. You are doing the right things by cutting down on the weight and carbs but I would go to the Dr. and ask for for a fasting blood glucose test and an A1c% test immediately. Don’t sit there and guess anymore. Remove your doubts by finding out for sure.
