If your are in the UK go to a Chemist (Lloyds / Boots) and they will test for free. Or make an appt and see your Dr – they will do a finger ***** test. If you have an increased BG count (non – fasting this would be above 10mmol/l) they will follow yup with a fasting finger ***** test (no food etc ) this should be between 4 – 7 mmol/l. I f this is outside this range they will then do a HBa1c which tests your historic BG for previous 3 months.
There is no single simple test for diabetes. The only way to know if you have diabetes is to be evaluated by a doctor.
Tell a parent and suggest to go to the doctor they have the most suffcient equipment to test. Good luck!
You can buy a glucometer, to test your blood sugar at home. But if you do not get a prescription for one they are very expensive. The average meter is around 60 dollars and the strips average to be about 1 dollar each. (USD) The best bet is to go to your doctor and have them do some blood work and a urine test. They will test your urine for sugar and ketones. The will do a bunch of different blood tests (A1c, 3 month average of your blood sugar, Fasting Blood Sugar, antibodies tests, helps rule out T1 or T2, and c-peptide, correlates to how much insulin you are making, to name a few) If you do have diabetes then you should go see an endocrinologist. All your symptoms are signs of high blood sugar, so you need to get this straightened out right away. A good site for more information is and a great message board/chat room is at Good luck.
Buying a monitor and testing it yourself usually will tell you the answer. If you test first thing in the morning before breakfast, your blood sugar should be under 100. If it is over I think 126, that is considered diabetic.
It probably would be better to go to the doctor to find out. Schedule your appointment early in the morning and don’t eat anything before you go. That should give you some reliable results. Make sure you get a hemoglobin A1C result with your blood work. Your doctor’s office might have a glucose monitor handy there too, meaning you could know that morning what your blood sugar is.
Good luck.
Your symptoms seems to be due to high blood sugar levels. Please notice that glucometre measurment is never diagnostic but only suugestive of possible hyperglycemia. You need to see your family physician to take full history , perform the necessary physical examination(s), and to request the necessary blood tests. Up to this moment ,HbA1C measurment is not included in the diagnostic criteria for diabetes.
I have a glucose meter and test strips. I ***** my finger and place a drop of blood on the strip in the meter. It gives me a reading and I compare it with my target levels to see if I am high or low or just right.
