Question by Soccer Chic: Do you still use insulin and check your glucose level with type 2 diabetes?
I think i may have diabetes (type 1 or type 2 not sure yet) but do you still need to check your glucose level and insulin injections

Pre-Diabetes
Occurs when a person’s blood glucose (sugar) level is above normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. Not all people with pre-diabetes will develop type 2 diabetes. Weight control and an active lifestyle can help prevent this condition from worsening.
Type 2 Diabetes
Occurs when the body produces some insulin but fails to use it properly. The amount of insulin produced may be below normal. Lifestyle factors such as inactivity and obesity are believed to be the main contributor in type 2 diabetes, although genetics may also play an important role. Most Americans with diabetes have type 2.
Type 1 Diabetes (previously called Juvenile Diabetes)
Occurs when the body fails to produce any insulin. Genetic factors are the main contributor. It is usually diagnosed in children and adolescents, however, adults can also develop this condition. 5-10% of Americans with diabetes have type 1.

Type 1 diabetics always need insulin injections. Their bodies are unable to produce it. Without it they would soon die.
Type 2 may or may not need insulin shots. These people usually produce some natural insulin but they either don’t produce enough or are resistant to insulin. It depends on the progression of the disease. Sometimes dietary changes and regular exercise are enough to manage it. Sometimes pills can help a type 2 use their own insulin better or produce greater quantities. Shots, which are usually very effective, are the last resort.
It is always very important for any diabetic to check and maintain a record of their blood glucose reading. Without that record it is almost impossible to properly monitor the condition and adjust whatever therapy (or combination of therapies) that are used to maintain good control over this very manageable condition.
Type 1 does require insulin injections. There are some type 2 diabetics who treat their diabetes with both medication and occasional insulin shots. ——————————————————————
It is always a good idea to check your blood sugar daily whether you are a type 1 or a type 2.
I am a type 2. I take up to 160 units of insulin per day. I take no other medication for diabetes. I use an insulin pump. I take my blood sugar up to 8 times a day.
Type 2 diabetics range from no medication and just exercise for control, to people like me taking insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is a progressively worsening disease.

If you take insulin, you don’t do it occasionaly, you do it at a minimum once a day.
