type 2 diabetes

Question by gerlawgoody1: Do you have any positive anecdotes of pregnancy with type 2 diabetes?
My husband is leery of attempting a pregnancy because I have type 2 diabetes. I have read about it, and while it is considered high risk, the success rates appear very positive.

Your ideas please.

Hi,

You might want to read this book, and see how you do with a better diet. You might actually start to see a more stable blood sugar level, and this can lead to your decision.

Dr. Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes.

While you will not be “Cured” of diabetes, it can make a insulin resistant diabetics health much better, and improve the insulin acceptance in other people as well. You don’t have to be diabetic to begin eating good for you food.

I would say get a A1c test done. If this is below 7%, then your risks are much lower than for a diabetic that has a higher reading. Through diet changes, Dr. Barnard’s test patients have A1c tests lower than 6% in a few months.

Then talk with a dietitian that deals with pregnancies. Be sure to monitor your blood sugar level as often as they recommend.

Give yourself say 4 months to get ready, and at least 2 months without birth control pills before making the final decision. You want to be in great health before you start eating for two!

Happy New Year.
