My dibetologist said that drugs are artificial & have bad side effects, but Insulin is a natural substance & is obtained from animals/ humans. Hence it assimilates quicker & has less / adverse effects. It should be prefferred to drugs. Is this correct ?

Insulin is considered a drug. It is not natural in the form I take.
I don’t understand what your doctor is telling you. Drugs like anything you put into your body can help or harm you this is true even for food!. So if you use the drugs to have a better/.longer life how is this bad for you? (or I should say “me”).
All drugs will have side effects thats just the nature of the beast.
The worst adverse rffects that insulin produces is lowering the blood sugars and thats what you want but not to low so you eat during the day. Vicious cycle.
But back to your question……Insulin is not better for you than oral meds this all depends on what your body needs & will assimilate. Oral sugar lowering meds do not work on me so I have to have the insulin shots. Some people get along very well on no meds just diet & exercise, and others on oral meds and then some like me injections, One is not better than another but what is needed.
I also take iron injections than are considered “natural” but not in a injection form the pills again don’t work for me.
Hope this helped.
Your endocrinologist – not ‘diabetologist’ – is somewhat right. Maybe you didn’t understand all that he/she said. Insulin was at one time made from animals. Now, at least in the US, it’s may by bacteria by recombining DNA to produce human insulin. I believe only Europe still uses animal insulin. Anyway, all drugs have side effects, some good and some bad. The problem for each patient and doctor is to find one that has the least effects and the best results. It’s “Better living through Chemistry” sort of thing. Without insulin your blood sugar (glucose) will go up and cause all sorts of complications – like blindness, kidney damage, heart damage, nerve damage. With insulin, you control your glucose level pretty much. There are three types of insulin – fast medium and slow acting. Each has its place. There are now another injectible drug – Byetta – for diabetics.
Nevertheless, as will all medications, your reaction is what matters. You are the one taking the risk as well as hoping for all the benefits. You have to find what works for you with your doctor’s help. Normally, new diagnosted individuals would start on pills such as Metformin, Actos, etc. Then, if they don’t respond well, move up to something stronger or better, leading to insulin. You can be on pills for years and never go to insulin. However, you must control diabetes or it will control your life. There’s no way around that fact. Good luck.
My brother took Humalog and that was considered a drug. If you take make sure to eat and I mean eat.
Try a vegan diet. It’s more natural than the drugs. A recent study found that the vegan diet will reverse type-2 diabetes. See I believe a vegan diet will help the type-1 diabetic too.
