Yes, Diabetes 2 can be treated. And if someone is willing to put in a lot of effort, in many cases Diabetes 2 can be eliminated altogether.
It can be treated with Meds… the endocrinologist will make that determination. But a lot can be done by diet and exercise. I eliminated Diabetes 2 by changing my entire lifestyle. Its a matter of life and … well, Diabetes, which leads to other complications.
Its not a diet.. diets don’t work for me. Its an entire lifestyle change. I had to change the way I think about food. Its not a friend, its fuel for the body. Thats all. Exercise is critical. You must burn more calories than you take in. Exercise will lower the blood sugar and make control easier.
I lost about 80 pounds… and I lost Diabetes.
The absolute best way to treat type two diabetes is with lots and lots of knowledge. Get plenty of daily exercise, lose weight, and stay on a high fiber, low fat/low carb diet. Get more specific info from my diabetes info page linked under my profile.
Diabetes is a progressive disease. That means you can only control it and slow it down. Your friend must keep his sugar under control and be sure his sugar returns to the normal range two hours after eating. He must test his blood to be sure he is keeping himself in range. Diabetes can be controlled-in the beginning with diet and exercise. You have to eat the right things-balanced diet. It’s not just sugar, it’s all carbs. Carbs eaten should be green(veggies) and lay off all the white stuff(potatoes are the worst, sugar, white flour, rice and all the rest). He must also eat small meals preferably five rather than any large meals because it is easier to keep sugar levels lower with no spiking. If sugar is high, drink a glass of water and go for a walk. If sugar is over 200 be very careful because you can damage your body badly. There are meds that help keep sugar levels down and then there is insulin. I take insulin and it isn’t bad and is easier at my stage of the game to control my sugar levels. The shots don’t even hurt because theneedle is so small. I was talking with a shot in my hand and couldn’t realize why I couldn’t separate my hands. I had stuck the needle through the opposite thumb and didn’t realize. It does burn sometimes tho’. Best thing to do is get online and start reading. Get him to a nutritionist and go with him. Get him to a doctor so get regulated. And most important is get a glutrometer and start testing on a regular basis at different times of the day. You will figure out what really gets his sugar up and it is a constant reminder to watch what you eat. Don’t mess around with diabetes. Again it is progressive. Once you move on to needing more meds, there is no going back. You only get worse. That is meant to scare you and is the truth. If that special someone does not take care of himself, my advice is to move on now. They will not live a long live and their death will be horrible and he will die piece by piece.
You can control it if you exercise, watch your diet and take it seriously. It may not work though. You have to keep that in mind too.
