Can Worrying Extensively Lead to Diabetes?

Some people say that this is possible and that some get diabetes after some highly stressful event in their lives. Is that true? If so, how does worry turn to diabetes? And is this only possible if the person is predisposed to diabetes in the first place?

Type 2 Diabetes comes about for a variety of reasons. It is not correct to pin point one single cause for it as it is a ‘lifestyle’ disease – and there are many things that add up to our lifesyles. Things like our eating habits, lack of exercise, being overweight, stress, age, genetics, nationality etc. can all make some contribution in varying proportions for each individual.
Yes 100% Diabetes has long been known to have a stress link to it. There are many different factors in play, and it is really dependent on whether or not you are talking about Type 1 or Type 2. Type 2 is the most common type of diabetes, and it is most closely stress related. The reason is complex, but it comes down to cortisol, which is the stress hormone and it causes all kinds of bad effects, from diabetes, to heart disease. Diabetes, while affecting some families more than others, is not always genetically linked.
I don’t think so. The closest thing I can think of might be gestational diabetes, which some women contract after giving birth. I suppose that could fall under the ‘highly stressful event’ you mentioned. But there is more to it than stress. Maybe if a person were to use sugar consumption as a crutch for their stressful life too. But, stress by itself, not likely.
Stress makes diabetes worse.
not likely.
genetics is the reason for type one diabetes, or just random bad luck.
too much carb intake with high sugars, and age is the reason for type 2.
