I was 19 when I was diagnosed and I will say I never got the proper education about this disease. The internet wasn't around but now, you can learn everything you really need to know to keep yourself under control. Also, make sure you have a good doctor who you feel comfortable with because your relationship with him/her is very key....good luck and remember, you are certainly not alone.....

First thing is to remember that you rule your diabetes it doesn't rule you. I felt out of control when i was dx'd at 12 years old. I got tired of having to eat at this time and test at this time and make sure you do this and this and blah blah blah. Now I hav control, I take my shots when I'm supposed to but I don't count carbs exactly, i estimate and listen to what my body is telling me rather than what a machine tells me. It's hard at first but take it slow and mainly listen to your body, you'll start recognizing signs and than respond appropriately.

I answer your question, to hopefully bring some comfort.
You do not stand alone. There is many others aswell.

I was diagnosed with diabities 2 months ago. Type 2.
It was shocking at first to hear that I had it. I was very worried.

What is helping me, is connecting to other diabetics. Just with others in my community. We formed a small group supporting eachother. We talk about the desease and also take walks. Community has been extremely helpful to me and also other in our group.

Perhaps, you and others can create your own small group to talk and also go on exercise walks too. Maybe there is even a group in your area already.

You have made a very good start, just in asking in a question. To me, you show great bravery and strenghth to fight against a demon many face. You do not stand alone.

Hi, I lived with a diabetic father for years and this is my experience.......he lived to be 94.....he developed inherited diabetes when he was 38 ......He was a happy active jovial person and a pleasure to have around. All he ever did was take his medicine and go merrily living a normal life. What I am trying to say is Diabetes is not the end of the world girl neither is it life threatening. So cheer up and follow your doctors advice, and mine too in eating whatever you can russel up yourself so you know exactly what you are eating. Of course an occasional slipping is allowed. Eat fresh fruit and fresh vegies and avoid packaged juices. On the whole time to avoid pre -cooked and packaged meals. Take care and enjoy life. Be happy and there is no need to pray as if you have the cancer.

I agree that knowledge is power. Research research research. I myself researched some when I found out I was a diabetic just enough to take care of me. When I found out my daughter was borderline I went nuts and researched everywhere so I could help her. In the meantime I have helped myself. My dad told me that if I cut potatoes out of my diet then it'd help alot. Has worked for me....good luck. Don't give up. It's not that bad....thousands of people live with it everyday. You can control it with a little knowledge!

first off pray to God for patience and understanding to help you cope. My neice was recently diagnosed also with diabetes and she is only 3 years old so its taking a huge toll on my sister. Second, get more opinions from doctors about what they think. Try going to a natropath doctor and getting his advise. Sometimes if you have a really huge and bad virus in your body, it can imitate diabetes and thats what will show up on your test. My sister went to a natropath doctor the other day for herself and the doctor was more interested in my niece than my sister! He said he has helped 2 people already "get rid" of their diabetes! Stay strong girl and dont forget to pray and I will be praying for you also
