It’s a Boy! asked:
I just have concerns with him getting to big. I’m 37 weeks and he’s already more than 7 pounds and my diabetes Dr. told me that they sometimes have to break diabetes babies collar bones to get them to come out. And if the baby gets to big they will need to do a c section. I obviously don’t want either thing to happen.

I have read that diabetes is associated with neuropathy (peripheral neuropathy and autonomous nervous system disorders such as urinary tract malfunction), as well as thirst. Specifically, how does it cause these two symptoms? It’s OK if the answer is complicated; I’m just looking for an accurate explanation, since most of the web pages I’ve found just say that these are symptoms of diabetes, without explaining why.
Those are really phenomenal answers! Thanks so much. I should add that the reason I asked is that I have both symptoms, but my blood sugar is normal and any other diabetes tests were negative. I also have a few other minor symptoms of diabetes. Could these symptoms still have a common cause? (My doctor can’t figure it out.)

A patient with no family history of diabetes was recently diagnoised with diabetes. The patient had previously undergone disc replacement surgery with replacement discs from cavaders that had been stolen (not known at the time) and were not properly screened for diasease. So now after finding out about being diabetic the question is how did the patient contract the disease having no prior history himself of it and no prior family history of it? Is it possible the patient got diabetes from improperly obtained cadavers?

While sitting in class, I overheard someone mention that their relative drank excessive amounts (at least a six pack) of beer a day, and the person’s doctor said the amount of beer he drank daily caused his diabetes. I’m looking for ways to scare my brother out of being an alcoholic and this would be a boon to my cause if it is true.

I have been feeling extremely sick lately and had an ordinary blood test taken. I just recently, after the blood test, have seen similar symptoms to diabetes and was wondering if a doctor can detect diabetes from a blood test.
